Big day at Westport Public School

His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret’d) and his wife Linda, along with Port Macquarie MP Leslie Williams,toured the school on February 24.

Governor Hurley said Westport Public School’s students were polite, bright and bubbly.

“They have a little bit of a twinkle in their eye,” he said.

“They represent their school very well, from the captains downwards.”

The Governor and Mrs Hurleyobserved lessons and watched a performance of the school choir.

Westport Public School principal Tony Johnston said the Governor’s visit was aboost for the school.

“It’s very exciting for the students, staffand community to have someone such as the Governor visit ourschool,” Mr Johnston said.

“We have fantastic community support and having someone like the Governor visit the school gives the community a real boost.”

Mr Johnston said Westport Public School was an inclusive school with innovative learning programs.

The Governor and Mrs Hurley visited Port Macquarie as part of a regional tour.

They also attended a Blokes Notesrehearsal.

Other placeson their agenda include Port Macquarie Base Hospital,Interrelate andNewman Senior Technical Collegebefore attending a communityleaders dinner organised by Hastings Co-op.

Governor Hurley said Port Macquarie was a lovely place.

“I think there is an enormous sense of community here,” he said.

“There is good volunteer spirit.

“It shows through all the different organisations that are here.”
