Visitors impressed by artist’s exotic garden

Artist’s retreat: Garden Club members take a stroll through Ken Taber’s beautiful sub-tropical garden at Mogo.On Thursday,February 9, a large group of Batemans Bay Garden Club members enjoyed a very pleasant stroll through the garden of Ken Taber, a renowned local artist, at Mogo.

The club was fortunate to be invited by Ken who explained how he had developed the garden over some 20years to a picturesque, exotic sub-tropical retreat.

Ken said he used seeds and seedlings and some cuttings to establish the design, which haddeveloped as he went along.

Ken was also kind enough to invite members into his studio to admire his diverse range of paintings.

Members then enjoyed a light morning tea on Ken’s open verandah, which allows delightful views over the gardens.

Monthly Meeting

The Anglican Church hall was again nearly full for the Batemans Bay Garden Club’s Club’s monthly meeting on February 23 (on a very hot day).

Following the formal part of the meeting, members were treated to a delicious afternoon tea.

Our guest speaker for themonth was Margret Crothers from the Seniors Rights Services.

Margret explained the functions of the service, which is free to NSW residents who are over 60 years of age.

Basically the Service exists to provide advocacy for seniors in various situations/disputes.

They are particularly involved with consumer rights, human rights/elder abuse, financial exploitation and planning for later life (and have solicitors for legal advice).

As advocates they provide information to aged care members about rights and responsibilities, listen to people’s concerns, help resolve problems or complaints with aged care providers, speak with service providers (if required) and/or refer you to other agencies where required.

The Service also provides education sessions to seniors as required/requested regarding rights and responsibilities.

Where possible the advocate will act as an intermediary between parties to find a solution to the dispute/problem.

Club Trips

Members are excited about our upcoming coach trip to Goulburn and surrounds in mid March.

Our next meeting will be held on Thursday,March 30, in the Church Hall, at 2pm, with guests always welcome.

For visitors, a trip to Eurobodalla Regional Botanic Gardens is always worthwhile. The Gardens, situated 5kmsouth of Batemans Bay on the Princes Highway, are a popular place for anyone interested in the area’sunique and beautiful environment.
